Overview
Treatment of Condylar Hyperplasia
Treatment Options
Mandibular condylar hyperplasia involves progressive growth that intensifies or accelerates during growth cycles. The most important step is to identify the stage the condition has reached and to confirm that it is genuinely in an active growth phase, rather than the lasting result of a process that has already stopped advancing.
To do this, several complementary tests are performed. You can find more details at the following link.
Once this has been established, and if the growth is active, the recommended treatment is a surgical procedure called a condylectomy.
During this surgery, a segment of the condyle containing the growth cartilage is removed. This area holds actively growing cells that shift the jaw toward the opposite side.
The procedure known as a condylectomy is performed under general anesthesia at a clinic and involves a one-day hospital stay, with a medical leave of 10 days.
Treatment must be planned on an individual basis, since every case is different, and your surgeon will explain the details to you thoroughly.
Options:
- Initial condylectomy, followed by orthodontics and then orthognathic surgery. Discharge.
